True dat. Like Putin, Orban has transmogrified from a progressive reformer into a conservative autocrat. Perhaps Orban still hasn't managed to induce Russian-style political apathy in Hungary, however, so there's hope.

@freespiritable More often than not, Orban doesn't get what he wants. Orban desperately needs EU funds to bribe his cronies -- funds that the EU is withholding from Hungary.

On the contrary, Orban was threatened with even more cuts to Hungary's EU funding. Orban is already running out of money to bribe his cronies, so the situation was growing desperate.
