Big win for Putin, my foot. Putin must be desperate, with one neighbour after another prying themselves loose from Moscow's claws. Ukraine already succeeded, Belarus is getting there and now Kazakhstan starts. The trend is clear.

Putin is not risking public embarrassment with unrealistic demands, which NATO can impossibly agree to. Putin must have some minor concessions in mind, which he'll reveal when he's good and ready. If those are related to nuclear disarmament, all the better.

NATO was definitely invited to Afghanistan by the UN Security Council, Russia among them, and time and again at that. Sure, Russia, given half the chance, comes to the aid of every two-bit dictator in distress. Assad, Maduro, Lukashenko, Nazarbayev... who's next?

@meplenn Exactly who's divided?

@meplenn Russia not a threat? Didn't Russia forcibly annex Crimea? How about the war in Donbas and 100,000 Russian troops massing on the Ukrainian border? Which rock are you under? These neighbours of Russia may be sovereign states, or at least so in name, but Belarus and Kazakhstan in particular are firmly in Russia's sphere of influence. Russia desperately wants to keep things that way, but they're fighting a losing battle. Hence the ruckus about NATO's eastward expansion.

@meplenn I'm not a CNN watcher, no. Putin would be my source for the Little Green Men, whom he publicly lauded for being instrumental in the annexation of Crimea. Let's see, the war in Donbas -- it was a public secret how Russian soldiers took their "holidays" there. Some returned in coffins, and their widows and mums wouldn't keep quiet about it. I remember reading about it in Novaya Gazeta (I read Russian, BTW). Neither Putin nor Russian TV makes a secret out of the troops massing on the Ukrainian border. You really are living under a rock.
