Comments by "peabase" (@peabase) on "What are Russian mercenaries up to in Mali and elsewhere in Africa? | DW News" video.
Sovereign nations have the right to enter into military alliances as they see fit, Ukraine included. If they invite alliance members to station troops on their soil, that's their prerogative as well. Russia has troops on foreign soil as well, only it's not nearly as popular a military partner as the USA -- or other NATO members, for that matter. I think your problem is jealousy, not foreign military bases per se.

Woah, you're getting carried away there! Only Eritrea and Mali support Russia. None of the other African countries do. That's 52 out of 54 countries that don't.

@greatspeeches1184 No, what gave you that idea? Duly appointed UN ambassadors speak on behalf of all 54 African countries. 52 of them declined speak up in support of Russia when the UNGA had its last vote on the matter.

@eddoes8915 If you'd bother to do some research, you'd find that only a minority of European nations engaged in colonialism. Many endured colonialism themselves. The Russian Empire, incidentally, was one of the most active and most brutal colonisers. It also bears reminding that where the Western European colonisers have decolonised, the Russian Federation still holds on to colonised territory. It can even be argued that the recent Russian annexations of Ukrainian territory qualify as such.

Let me get this right: you're inviting a known home invader into your home, because said perp never invaded your home? During the Age of Imperialism, Russia aggressively expanded to Siberia, the Far East, Central Asia and Europe. Imperial Russia's colonial record only differed from European colonialism in that the Russians went overland instead of overseas in order to kill and conquer. Russia didn't shy away from genocide either. So, shouldn't you be condemning colonialism on all continents? It's as if you're only too willing to turn a blind eye to Russia's past (and present) colonial exploits.

The whole UN peacekeeping mission in Mali is over. In terms of troops that remained, France was a minor contributor, with Chad, Bangladesh and Egypt being the top 3 contributors. Jubilate over that.

When has the Russian Federation been "allowed into" Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland and Sweden?

@chidera66 I have a masters in history. Try to answer my question.

@sebastianwrites The UNGA vote is a fact. Or do you suspect vote rigging? I could do with a juicy conspiracy theory on a lazy Saturday.

@darkworld3441 Antarctica is huge. It should be someone's daddy because of size alone, but it's childless.

The UN was invited to Mali, and now, disinvited. Let's see if there's another invitation after Mali has its umpteenth military coup. Which should be in 3... 2... 1...

@dorismugisha3647 Oh, but decolonisation is still ongoing. It's tough going for the likes of France and the UK, because the little they've left isn't all that keen on being decolonised. Russia, however, still has a gargantuan task decolonising, but it's work in progress. I mean, the dissolution of the Soviet Union was a big step forward. The impending dissolution of the Russian Federation will be another.

That's rich, considering that Wagner almost made civil war break out in Russia.
1
No, the UN peacekeepers were critical of how Wagner is conducting its business in Mali, and the Malian military junta decided they're allergic to criticism. In Mali, (military) governments come and go, so Wagner may be asked to leave as well. The UN comes cheap -- Wagner, not so.

@eddoes8915 I made my point. It's not my fault that you lack comprehension. What's with the Caps Lock?

@dandyally9983 Neither was Gaddafi killed by NATO. Which NATO ops in Congo and Somalia are you referring to? I have to ask, because I'm not aware of any. You trolls make the wildest accusations. Maybe you should stick to a semblance of the truth? Clear lies immediately rob you of your credibility.
