The best story I've heard was about a Dutch mounted policeman who got thrown off a startled horse in the middle of "violently" protesting squatters. The latter helped the man back into the saddle, handed him the walkie-talkie he'd dropped and sent the policeman off with "Hi-yo Silver!"

@BigMamaDaveX Putin? Statesman? Rather, he's a mob boss who thinks nothing of putting contracts out on his opponents. He's turned Russia into a pariah state and an economic basket case. Democracy is underdeveloped in Russia, but thanks to Navalny, it's nudging ahead again. Navalny or someone else, people want an alternative to Putin.

@russianpower4252 If not our democracy, what kind of democracy do you need then? But as things stand now, Russia just doesn't qualify as any sort of democracy.

PhSt Actually, it was Putin who gave NATO a new lease of life by annexing Crimea and waging war in East Ukraine. Moreover, it was the former Soviet bloc countries that eagerly sought NATO membership. It wasn't forced upon them by the US or anyone else for that matter. Instead of letting them in right away, NATO had these interested parties join its Partnership for Peace program, and keep them waiting for 10 years on average. Incidentally, Russia joined the program as well. You could say these NATO's newest members were prescient -- even more prescient than Russia regarding itself.
