@sahinozkan199 What China does to the iPhone is final assembly. It adds relatively little value to the product. It distorts trade figures, because China is seen as selling a finished product, whereas it had to import pricey components from the likes of Japan, Taiwan and South Korea. The US recoups a large part of the transfer price, too, in the form of royalties on intellectual property. Summa summarum, China makes relatively little money, but it sure likes the bragging rights.

@sahinozkan199 I have lived in China, bud. You don't need to explain the obvious. I invested in Xiaomi as soon as they listed in HK. I am a big fan. However, you were boasting about the iPhone being manufactured in China. You should've picked a different example. Xiaomi, for example. However, as Western companies start de-risking, China has a problem on its hands. Their manufacturing sector will suffer the consequences.

@sahinozkan199 Again, I l-i-v-e-d in Shanghai for two years, engaging local handset manufacturers on behalf of my European employer and erstwhile market leader. Try to explain what I got wrong.

@cocaineminor4420 How is that going to work when Western corporations are de-risking? Let me guess, China will compensate for the loss of those contracts by manufacturing all those Russian-designed products for which there's an insatiable global appetite? Or failing that, North Korean ones?
