  1. China's dilemma is how to make sure that Putin's successor sees eye to eye with China. By now, Beijing must've concluded that Putin is a liability and a political zombie. If I were Xi, I would start putting out feelers among Russia's siloviki about a palace coup. China could offer to take Putin off their hands, retiring him to the steppes of Inner Mongolia, where Putin can strip half-naked and ride horsey to his heart's content.

  2.  @apos3536  You're assuming that China has an irrational fixation on Taiwan, just like Putin has on Ukraine. I think cooler heads will prevail in Beijing, especially after observing how badly Putin's military adventurism worked out in Ukraine. China will think twice about invading Taiwan. When Putin has retired to China, never to be seen or heard from again, we'll hear no more sabre-rattling from China either.
