Scotland as a whole has voiced aspirations of becoming a Nordic country. Norway footing the bill would be ideal.

@filipe5722 Poland may be a wise investment economically and labour-wise, but politically -- not so much. It's as if the Poles and their Hungarian friends don't think this democracy thing is a worthwhile pursuit.

@filipe5722 I'm sure the Balts warned the Germans about taking possession of a territory with a large ethnic Russian population. It's not necessarily the population per se that's the problem, but the Kremlin autocrats now and then develop an overpowering urge to "liberate" them -- against said population's wishes, if need be.

@russell6075 Of the current EU members, Germany invaded Poland and France failed to prevent it despite earlier promises to contrary. What do the remaining EU members, all 25 of them, got to do with the price of tea in Poland?

Many are indeed. A Scottish friend of mine was eager to tell me that a DNA test showed that he was 40% Scandinavian. Yet his family had no recollection of Scandinavian ancestors, only Scots. It's implied that he inherited his generous helping of Scandie genes from various unrelated Scottish ancestors.
