In the world at large, it refers to classical liberalism, whereas among the Americans the term refers to social liberalism. I don't mind being called a liberal, but if you insist on impersonating an American, it would have to be 'libertarian'. Aw, your feelings were hurt when I directed you to Fox News. Yet you copy them slavishly. Sure, the term 'liberal' is in wide use internationally. The Liberal Party of Australia is an interesting case. They're the dominant centre-right party in Australia, and they describe themselves as liberal-conservatives or classical liberals. Their conservatism manifest itself in social issues and their liberalism in economic matters, which makes them the Aussie version of the US Republican Party or the British Conservative Party. In other words, they're the antipole of social liberalism, which is the realm of the Australian Labor Party. All this must be impossibly confusing to you.

In this case, this somewhere is the US, where they're deviating from the norm with their definition of liberalism. As if to hide their mistake, they've taken to calling (classical) liberalism libertarianism. You keep repeating that you're not American. If you don't like it, stop parroting Americanisms.
