Paranoia? All three have ample reason for concern. Labelling Russia as a treacherous neighbour is an understatement.

So, what are the lessons? Assuming you're not a braggard, it would appear you have a very keen understanding of their failures.

It occurs to me that as major, fast-emerging economy, India should get its voice heard.

@arvindkatiyar526 OK, I could make head nor tail of your reply. Or did you let it out of its misery and delete it?

You speak like a wife beater: "Look at what you did, you made me hit you!"

@arondebreceni9464 Aw, it sucks to be you. We fought the Winter War against the Soviet Union -- alone, but we're not ones to whine about it.

@arondebreceni9464 That's all good and well, but none of the Hungarians volunteers that actually did show up (346) turned out to be combat-ready, as in trained in and fit for winter warfare. I'm afraid these volunteers of yours, had they been deployed to the front as-is, would've fared like the similarly untrained Ukrainians on the Soviet side -- not well at all.

@arondebreceni9464 It's not a matter of believing. It's a fact that none of the Hungarian volunteers saw action in the Winter War. The reason given was lack of military training. In military terms, that equates to "unfit". You're not quite up to speed on relevant history. The Germans dutifully recorded Stalin's intentions to finish off Finland after the Winter War, but Stalin's then-ally Hitler was strongly opposed. Again in 1944, Stalin tried his utmost to conquer Finland, but the Red Army was rebuffed on all fronts. In your shoes I wouldn't moralise with regard to Stalin. You ended up subjugated, we didn't.

@arondebreceni9464 You're a glory hound, aren't you? My grandfather came back from the Winter War with an impressive set of medals and scars. We never knew what he'd done to get them. But I don't think it was for being trained in winter warfare.

@arondebreceni9464 Did I claim the Hungarian volunteers were incompetent? Untrained, I wrote. My granddad never talked about the war. He always said that self-praise stinks.

Which part of "nuclear deterrent" don't you understand, Tania? They do serve a purpose, as in making it known to potential aggressors that the costs of launching a nuclear attack against NATO far outweighs any benefit they could hope to achieve.
