Comments by "peabase" (@peabase) on "Finland's Next Service Rifle (Mostly): Sako ARG S 40" video.
I briefly served as a Finnish conscript in Taistelukoulu, a training centre for officers, in the eighties. A major had us conscripts test all manner of assault rifles and relate our experiences. I immediately took to the AR pattern. We even had a rare 7.62x39 version of the M16. The thinking was that the Soviet cartridge was better suited for Finland's heavily forested environment, where a twig would supposedly send a 5.56 tumbling.

@kutter_ttl6786 Ian is way ahead of you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xovdRJYg_-o

@mitamajr The 7.62 is inherently more stable in flight that the 5.56. I've experienced myself how the soft-nosed .308 splatters when it hits a twig on elk hunts (that's moose hunt for the New Worlders), but that's not exactly applicable to combat.

6.8 is also under consideration by the Finnish military.

@ Read again: "If money was no issue,..." Our Special jaegers use the SCAR. You should talk to one if you get the chance. No upvoting your own comments, please.

But Finland has used the AK pattern Valmet RK 62 from 1965 onwards. The Swedish Ak 5 takes after the Kalashnikov, too.

@hullutsuhna Interestingly, our major alluded to something like that. The AR-10 we had was Dutch-made. There was an instruction booklet in Dutch, too. The AR-10, while in 7.62x51mm, was more pleasant to shoot than my cousin's AK pattern Valmet Petra/Hunter (and later, mine), which says much about the superior AR design.

It would be weird if they didn't. Lawsuits after every tender is like death and taxes.

@Frille512 Let's just say good enough for government work. If money was no issue, the FDF would equip everyone with the FN SCAR.

@Frille512 Precious you.

@Frille512 For all I care you can create fifteen accounts and thumb up your comments as many times.

Not really. The RK 62, which has served us very well, doesn't have a chrome-lined barrel. There's a persistent belief in the FDF that chrome-lined barrels are less accurate. We use quality ammo and clean our rifles diligently. Woe betide the Finnish conscript who lets his rifle rust!
