@thekillers1stfan Russian soldiers carry a knife. The same goes for the Finns, whose RK62 served as the intermediary step towards the Galil. If you have a knife, there's no need for a bottle opener.

@poika22 I'm a reservist shooter and I definitely prefer my present Bushmaster AR to my former Sako S92, or for that matter, my Saiga AK. The 5.56 is much nicer to shoot in comparison to the 7.62x39. Finnish army instructors insist that the former lacks punching power in a forested environment, but I take that with a pinch of salt. If it were a problem, it would've come to light in Vietnam.

Right, life doesn't need to be more complicated than it is already.

I'm surprised to hear you say that, you being a Finn. Every Finnish soldier has a knife and knows how to use it... as a bottle opener, among others.

One is an assault rifle firing an intermediate cartridge and the other is a battle rifle firing a full-powered rifle cartridge. Apples and oranges.

@erikmarkuskannike7526 My point is, they the differ in characteristics. You could make a case that pistols are superior to assault rifles because they're lighter, but that wouldn't be a fair comparison.

@TheDiameter What was what and what did do what exactly? I am certainly ignorant as to what you might possibly mean with your cryptic (and abrasive) comment.

It's a matter of what you're used to. In Lebanon, I served alongside Swedes and Danes, who were equipped with their G3 variants, whereas we carried the RK62, the precursor to the Galil. We shot one another's rifles at the range and concluded he wouldn't trade. Some of my compatriots were taken aback by the G3's heavier recoil, but ours was handier in getting in and out of APCs. Of course, on foot patrols the lightness of the RK62 was a welcome relief, too. We'd joke to the Scandis that we'd take theirs on a moose hunt, but otherwise, no.
