@davidcruz8667 You're not as unique as you think. In Finland, we've got an unbroken tradition of hunting that goes back to the dawn of time. Not only that, we were the last hunter-gathers on the continent -- our cromagnon-like skeletal proportions are testament to that. More so than anywhere else, big-game hunting is a national pastime in Finland. Ever since practical firearms became available, we've put them to use. Every able-bodied male Finn knows how to handle a rifle, if not from boyhood, then after compulsory military training. My late grandfather, a Winter War veteran, made sure all his male grandchildren qualified as marksmen. Many of us reservists keep practising in our own time. We own our semi-auto rifles and keep them at home, too. Myself, I've got a bit of a collection going. Licenses have never been an issue. The only truly unique aspect of American gun love is your need to arm yourselves for home defence and against tyrannical government. I've never felt the need to resort to firearms to protect myself against my compatriots. I blame our elaborate welfare system and our surprisingly functional democracy.

@SteamCrane It's an interesting court case indeed. Bible vs. law, or more particularly, a law pertaining to incitement to ethnic or racial hatred. I'm sure the Bible contains thousands of excuses to break the law, and not just ours, but yours, too. Neither of us lives under a Christian equivalent of Sharia law, after all. Anyhow, what's the relevance of your comment? Are you getting people together to bust Ms. Räsänen out of prison (she's facing a fine at worst) and you need guns to do so?

@SteamCrane You're preaching to the choir, but in all honesty, there are enough troubling passages in the Bible that misguided zealots could start drawing inspiration from for Sharia-like laws. Joseph Kony and his Lord's Resistance Army are a case in point.

@josephahner3031 Apart from Russia, we haven't got any aggressive neighbours. There were scuffles with the Vikings, but we just as eagerly joined them on raids.

@josephahner3031 Finland was part of Sweden when Sweden was at its most powerful. We even provided half of Gustavus Adolphus' much-feared light cavalry. Prussia never posed a threat to Finland proper. There were a number of wars that pitted Prussia against Sweden (and involved troops drawn from Finland), but all the fighting took place on German soil.
