The RK62s with stamped receivers are kept in storage, because otherwise Finnish conscripts would abuse the hell out of them.

@colemanmoore9871 In Finland, reindeer are semi-domesticated and ear-marked by their owners, who're typically indigenous Sami people. I suppose the latter can offer them for hunting, but it's not very sporting to shoot a reindeer. Even though they roam free most the year, they're not particularly shy of people. Last winter, when I took part in a veterans' biathlon, it was like they were cheering me on from the sidelines. I could've bagged quite a few as the dumb animals stood around the targets.

@jeffreyroot6300 Wapitis. Your first settlers, being from Britain, didn't know what a real elk looked like. They called the first large animal with antlers that they encountered "elk". When they came across the real thing, they had to think of something else.

Petras, or Valmet Hunters, are still pretty common. You regularly come across them on elk hunts (that's moose for the Yanks).

@jeffreyroot6300 The ancient Brits had hunted the elk to extinction, so it's an honest mistake. Unlike your caribou, our reindeer are half-domesticated. There was an public outcry here when Sarah Palin was shown shooting a caribou. She might as well have shot Bambi.

@jeffreyroot6300 I was referring to an adorable Disney character, not the real thing. Hunting is uniquely popular in Finland. You might raise a few eyebrows in the US by saying that you hunt, but no one here will bat an eyelid.

I carried a stamped-receiver RK62 in '86 - '87. The sights were peep sights and no folding stocks either. Nothing wrong with them as far as I could tell, but us "spool arses" we weren't quite as heavy-handed with them as the "grass drills".

@FROOBELINKALIKAT-p9z You should be a philosopher. On second thought, don't give up your day job.

Undoubtedly it will work, but you'll have to bring along leather mittens. It's like when foreigners wear jewellery to the sauna. Once.

@FROOBELINKALIKAT-p9z You must have an American English dictionary. It's definitely "elk" in British English. Despite Brexit, British English remains the formal version of the language within the European Union.
