@konstantinospapadopoulos4643 Two decades ago, Russia was toying with the idea of joining NATO itself.

We Finns imported precious little from Russia food-wise. When Russia attacked Ukraine, the grocery chains immediately took all Russian products off the shelves. It was some veggies and, surprisingly, Mentos candy.

@julianbrelsford Russia's chess masters have left the country. They can think ahead and they saw Russia losing.

@FIVESTARBOOKINGTRAVEL Switzerland isn't considering to join NATO. S-W-E-D-E-N. Learn geography.

@konstantinospapadopoulos4643 I prefer a fact-based approach. The US is a "flawed democracy" as per the Democracy Index -- I guess that's a democracy nonetheless. The compilers, the EIU, qualify Russia as "authoritarian", but because Russia insists that Putin is democratically elected and that their elected State Duma actually wields power, "false democracy" wouldn't go amiss either. Did you get it, true/false? You asked me if I have free speech. Unlike the US, ours is a "full democracy" and Freedom House gave us a perfect score for political rights and civil liberties. So I'm inclined to answer "yes". I not sure I've ever watched CNBC -- apart from this vid -- but I must've on my not-so-frequent-anymore visits to the US. I prefer my news to be served in a more sober, European manner -- something that the Americans would consider boring.

@RAVATOBI Then there's apparently no need for Russia to live either. I'm having a hard time believing the Russians are truly suicidal, however.

Almighty God George Soros #420 #GetRekd I actually used ExpressVPN in China one year ago. You have switch servers all the time, since for one reason or another, the same server doesn't work all the time. For my next trip, I set up a private VPN at our office. It worked flawlessly.

@Theoracleman50 I suppose it didn't occur to you that parts of aquatic animals are called something entirely different in Russian? Monoglot much?

@nickn1998 That's interesting, but I can think of many countries that enjoy both full democracy and public safety. They're not mutually exclusive.
1
@nickn1998 I pity the Chinese if they think they need to emulate the US. However, democracy is a human right. China can't keep denying its people that, and nor can Singapore, for that matter.

Well, there's a case to be made that China should observe the quid pro quo principle.

I'll let you in on a secret. Russia didn't attack Ukraine because of NATO. Putin just couldn't keep his grubby hands off Ukraine. NATO expansion was merely a pretext. Now Putin has a tough time justifying his "special military operation", since NATO is expanding, not with one but two new members, and he's not getting Ukraine either.

@Greghh1960 Putin has been very explicit about his views on Ukraine. He doesn't think it's a real country that deserves to exist outside of Russia. That reveals his imperialistic side that's bent on conquest, as in resurrecting the Soviet Union. It's telling that Putin annexed Crimea before there was any talk of Ukraine joining NATO. Just an idea, but why don't you try introducing some facts in support of your opinions? Don't you know what they say about opinions? They're like bumholes; everyone's got one and they stink.
1
@jhozthron4415 Do you even realise that you're lending credence to Putin's propaganda that it's NATO that is waging a war against Russia, with Ukraine as the instrument? That makes you no better than a Putin bot. Ukraine didn't agree to be devastated at the hands of Russia just to further NATO's and Biden's supposed quest for world domination. Neither is Finland now agreeing to act as another pawn in your imagined game of Risk. Finland and Sweden are rationally seeking security guarantees -- not confrontation -- after Russia squandered its last shred of trust in their eyes. Stop reciting from the Kremlin's playbook.
1
@konstantinospapadopoulos4643 For good reasons, too. Russia failed and continues to fail to tick the boxes of NATO membership. For starters, it's not a true democracy, and it's rife with ethnic conflict. Do the wars in Chechnya ring a bell? We like to spread our arms procurement over different countries. Germany, France, Sweden, Israel, South Africa -- you name it, it's there. But enough about your cliché-laden conspiracy theories.

@konstantinospapadopoulos4643 1) Try to use your own words. 2) Sham democracies exist aplenty. Saddam Hussein got 100% of the popular vote, but not much later, the Iraqis hung him. 3) I don't understand the connection. I'm unsure if Julian Assange and Snowden have even visited my country.
