  1. ​ @Balnazzardi  You're describing a party dictatorship, which is what the USSR was and the PRC still is. Still a dictatorship, but point taken. The Politburo would've replaced Putin by now. After all, Khrushchev was deposed for a lesser failure. He went quietly, and lived quietly ever after, too. I don't expect Putin to go quietly, but go he will.

  6. He is (or was) a member of the legislative assembly in the Far Eastern region of Primorsky Krai. Not of very high rank, in other words. Moreover, Putin's United Russia enjoys a majority, so the assembly doesn't amount to anything but a rubber stamp. Well, it's no different from Russia's State Duma in that respect.
