The UN Charter clearly states as follows: "Nothing in the present Charter shall impair the inherent right of individual or collective self-defence if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations [...]". So, Ukraine is entirely within its rights to defend itself and hence, Australia can help it do so. Besides, there's no war on in Ukraine as far as Russia is concerned -- just some "special military operation".
