  3. ​ @letmelie4757  NATO's area of responsibility covers North America, Europe and Turkey only. So, a military conflict in the Pacific won't necessarily trigger NATO's Article 5, but be that as it may, the US needs NATO to contain Russia, which won't hold back in the event of a US-China conflict. Long gone are the days that the US could fight -- and win -- two major wars plus some minor ones at the same time, as its defence strategy once prescribed.

  4.  @munksoe  The League of Nations failed to prevent WW2 after Germany, Italy and Japan left (and the USSR was unceremoniously booted out). Ironically, now the US finds itself on the dark side.
