Frank Andersson I have to differ on that score. I have no political agenda in stating that the Germans treated Finnish civilians with restraint in the Lapland War. The vastness of the material destruction can't be denied, of course, but very few civilians lost their lives as a result of direct military action. The military encounters with the Germans were bloody at times, but they were just scraps compared to the war of attrition conducted against the Red Army. Then there's the material value of the territory that had to be ceded to the Soviet Union, not to mention the war reparations that the Soviets were demanding.

Frank Andersson You seem to have lost the plot on this one. Your original assertion was that the Lapland War was more destructive on Finland than the Continuation War. I set you straight, pointing out that the Lapland War was a mere skirmish in comparison, both in terms of casualties and loss of property. No one else but you is blowing things out of proportion, or straying from context.

Frank Andersson Here's me still wondering what provoked such an acute hostile reaction from you. You must feel cornered and afraid for some reason.

Superfamily Allosauridae If Russia tries to impose sanctions on Finland, the whole EU will react with counter-sanctions. The EU would also compensate Finland for the damage it sustains. That sorts out the economic side. NATO would sort out the military side, where the same logic applies. Stronger together.

mambafication Russia might very well test NATO with an incursion into Finnish territory, which doesn't automatically trigger an armed response from NATO, but was a similar destabilising effect as if a NATO country were attacked. I know it's not a very likely scenario, but in defending one's country you don't just prepare for likely scenarios. It's also worth reminding that after the Winter War, Finland was desperate for allies to stave off further Soviet aggression, and the third and final choice proved awkward to say the least. Neutrality has served its purpose and it's time to do our bit in halting Russian aggression.

Superfamily Allosauridae The Euro per se isn't flawed on account of Greece. The country had no business being in the Eurozone to begin with, but the EC and ECB are to blame for letting Greece get away with their creative accounting. It says more about implementation rather than the concept of having a common currency, which is still very valid. Be that as it may, Finland has greatly benefited from the stability that the Euro provides. The poor old markka used to be all over the place, greatly hindering trade.
