If midterms followed historical norms, Trump loses the Senate in 2018. Only he didn't. And when you look at all the Republican (RINO) 'retirements' in the House, it's kind of a miracle that the Dem majority isn't much much bigger. We'll see if any of that Trump magic translates to district voting. It will require GOOD Republican candidates, and I'm not sure how many of those there are!

  6.  @marks6663  : The Libertarians are correct about open borders, long term. But not in a world where South of the border do not respect the rights of their people. If all governments DID respect the rights of their people and were truly limited, national borders would be more or less irrelevant - and ultimately should be. But as long as there are a vast majority of countries who believe in unlimited government size and scope, those who are doing things more correctly (limited government) need to defend their borders to protect their way of life. And until we totally go nuts and impose our ways on everybody else, by force, we just need to protect our borders and our unique form of self government.

  7. Accidents of nature occur in dogs and humans. Some pups and some kids are just born psychopaths. But with 99.99% of dogs, if you raise it properly, it will be a calm, well-behaved dog. Every pit or rott I've ever known was gentle with its family. Depending on how bad the owner was, the dog would be more or less aggressive towards strangers. I just never felt like pits or rotts were very practical dogs. They're city dogs, never far away from shelter. Most rotts would be pretty useless on the trail. Good for pulling a milk cart at a slow walk from a couple miles out of town. Every farmer I've ever known, and all the farm kids I grew up with, had guns close to hand. As soon as a kid's big enough to hurt themselves with one, they're taught about them. They watched their dads (and sometimes moms) shoot, field dress, and at least hang a carcass, if not butcher it, themselves. You don't deprive a child of a roof over their head because they might kill themselves falling off it. On a farm, you are the nearest law enforcement. That pistol's no good to you in a pinch if it's locked in a safe.

They ALL got themselves re-elected by coming up with new and innovative ways to spend more of our money on more and more wasteful boondoggles. The Democrats became just as in love with weapons systems and war as the most hawkish Republicans and the Republicans became acolytes of big social spending. Both parties also colluded to regulate everything under the sun, and by all appearances in such a way as to protect the biggest and most underhanded corporations and banks, while slowly putting the screws to the little guy, who just wants to work for himself.

There's still a lot of inertia in government institutions consisting of the same lefty, I'm-smarter-than-you types embedded in government and education, not to mention leaking over into the private sector, with diversity officers (Soviet Commissars) finding work at major corporations and pushing the same Obama-executive-order mandates that never passed the smell test in the legislature, but which bureaucrats, without the legal authority to do so, went ahead and "passed" by what is essentially DECREE. As a faculty member at an American college, I'm obliged to take Title IX training, every year. At first, I thought it was because the training must suck that taking it once isn't sufficient, but it's because with annual training, they can update us on the latest re-defining of dictionary terms for things. To get their way, liberals are incessantly re-defining terms to suit themselves, and these trainings are how the Establishment get these new, language-and-meaning-destroying terms out into the public sphere, by making SURE that all teachers take the same indoctrination, every year, like computer updates.

The overlap of responsibilities and authority means any of 'em can do anything they want. Just depends who's running the operation at any given time what you'll get, but none of it's good.

  37.  @SoilToSoul  Seems like we're due for a magnetic reversal. North becomes South and vice-versa. Who knows what problems that might cause? Earthquakes and such? Lots of igneous rock around the planet that is magnetized one way or the other, in vertical layers on land and horizontal bands, mid-ocean. A reversal of Earth's magnetization would reverse the magnetic stresses on those opposite-oriented layers and bands. It's a small force, but that's a lot of rock, and all the forces are in perfect balance under the current field.

UK's significant, but UK, France and Germany are not as big or as important as they think, any more. It was HILARIOUS watching Trump speak to NATO, like the delinquent children they are. Everybody was shocked, but the fact is that UK, France and Germany are 2nd-tier powers who don't even pay for their own defense.

The guys doing actual science figure it was one of those air-burst meteorites that are super-heated plasma by the time they reach the ground, like the massive Tunguska event in Siberia. Not as big, but the same sort of thing. They still haven't explained how Lot's wife turned into a pillar of salt.

I know the DNC is broke, but you get to keep your campaign money after you drop out, and I'm guessing none of 'em will stay in if they start losing money.
