zoompt 1975 : The cops have gotten it from Day 1. They will NOT turn their backs on ANTIFA. But they trust the patriot prayer/free speech types. They figure it out, almost instantly, because at their backs are law-abiding citizens and in front of them are I-don't-know-what's.

They're not, when you listen to what they were saying. Just old-fashioned, limited-government classical liberalism. And it takes a couple dozen to waste the time of hundreds or thousands of Antifa. And it's successful if it shows Antifa for the asses they are.

Maybe it's just LARPing, but if I were going into the lion's den of Antifa protesters, I'd want to gear up. Protect my head, eyes, face. Maybe wear a flak jacket for the rock-throwers.

You're behind the times on Portland and Berkeley. Facing lawsuits from permitted demonstrators, they're actually keeping the right and left separated, and didn't allow Antifa to do their nasty. Ted Wheeler's offices were Occupied by pissed-off lefties, because the non-violent demonstrators didn't get the same treatment as the violent leftists. This is a big shift in city governments' stance. But if it's between pleasing Antifa and avoiding lawsuits, city government fears lawsuits more.

The Greens appear to me to be the openly-socialist branch of the Demonrat party. It's a split between the hard left and their confused fellow travelers.
