  1. Desktop apps are designed around smartphones, and it makes them much less efficient. It's like overhauling an engine with nothing but a set of pliers. They ruined Acrobat Pro with the same bullshit thinking. They make these apps dumb enough for an idiot on a smartphone to use, so a smart person with some skills is really hurt. I don't want to scan an entire page of icons for what I need, every flippin' time I use it. Menu-driven, where you learn the keystroke shortcuts for things you use a lot are still the best ways to improve productivity on a desktop/laptop.
