I think the "thinking crowd" under-estimate how successful the establishment has been and is with regard to censorship. If you're not curious and somewhat knowledgeable, you will NOT find a single conservative idea on social media. They'll send you straight to Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert. And the only news you'll see is legacy-media distortions and half-truths.
