  1. Two things on the foreign trade: First is that I agree that our trade posture has sucked for a very long time. What you don't go into is how some of those deals come with strategic strings. Easy to get NATO to side with you on a foreign intervention when you're paying its bills and tell them they go along or the gravy train stops. The second thing is that the USDA and other federal agencies conspire to pump our foods full of chemicals, including genetically-modified foods that have genes inserted that create toxins that are bad for humans, just to make them pest resistant. We also know about the treatment of cows in the feed lots. Stuff them full of corn, pump them full of antibiotics and hormones, and celebrate the increased yields, while ignoring the poisons we're putting into the food chain atop which we sit. I don't think that selling agricultural products abroad is how you really help our trade balance. To really affect that, you need to sell MANUFACTURED goods, abroad. But to sell our agricultural products at home AND abroad, we really need to clean up our act. I don't blame the EU for not wanting to buy American beef...
