@DanInAlabama : Unions are weaker than ever, but LOTS of people out there who remember that good union job they used to have. Manufacturing jobs have always paid quite a lot to labor for the amount of skill involved. I think GM workers make about $60/hr. I THINK full pension and health benefits are on top of that, but I'm not sure. They're making out very nicely for themselves, already, and most people are getting by on much less.
