@YorktownUSA : Republicans know how to talk to classical liberals, better, but they're just as tax-and-spend and just as open-borders when it comes to policy. If it weren't for Trump, we wouldn't be talking about convoys. We'd be watching a 12-month-a-year parade stretching from Tijuana to Venezuela.

@justinwhite2725 : Biden's performance with the Chinese and the benefits accruing directly to his family are public record. So are his dealings in the Ukraine, where again, his family made out like bandits. Plus he's a socialist, who isn't quite ready to say so. The worst kind. And he's losing his marbles. The fact is, every single one of those Democrats is scary-dangerous. We've got a slight chance of coming out better at the end of 2024 than we are, now, with Trump. But any of those Dem hopefuls would be disastrous. I would seriously consider cashing in my chips and heading for the safest, cheapest place I could find and just hunker down in semi-retirement, hoping the storm passes over.

@a.h.lazure2346 : Meh. We were deep into the big-government idea ever since Lyndon Johnson. No politician got ahead arguing for fewer programs. They ALL got themselves re-elected by coming up with new and innovative ways to spend more of our money on more and more wasteful boondoggles. The Democrats became just as in love with weapons systems and war as the most hawkish Republicans and the Republicans became acolytes of big social spending. Both parties also colluded to regulate everything under the sun, and by all appearances in such a way as to protect the biggest and most underhanded corporations and banks, while slowly putting the screws to the little guy, who just wants to work for himself.

I wonder if you could do an analysis that shows whether or not the campaigns are generating a profit for the candidates. I know the DNC is broke, but you get to keep your campaign money after you drop out, and I'm guessing none of 'em will stay in if they start losing money. These people are all about spending other people's money, not their own.

@a.h.lazure2346 : Republicans are less bad for the short term. But there are too many careerist legislators, like Mitch McConnell and Charles Grassley. Those guys will pretend to be conservative and then vote for big spending and war. Dems are a LITTLE different. They vote for war and big spending.

Warren's the one that scares me. She rattles off her prepared talking points like a machine gun and with great, simulated passion that anybody who's had a beer with her knows is totally phony.

You're right about Harris, and it's too bad for Dems, because she's the only one who looks presidential to me. She has the presence and the charisma that none of the others have. Biden 20 years ago would just run his mouth when he got asked the wrong question, making him the king of gaffes, and preventing him from winning the nomination. Now he knows enough to hold his tongue, but those moments when he really doesn't have a strong response just look awkward, dithering and doddering, instead of "WTF is he talking about? Did he really just say what I think he said? OMG! He's DONE!" I think Joe's always had big holes in his understanding of things, and always appeared smarter than he was because of his delivery, diction and looks. FWIW, that "next president," reaching over and patting Booker on the arm was old-school classy. He picked up points, there, and Booker lost points with a schoolboy come-back after he got owned. There was a warmth that Biden at least simulated that looked more real than anything except everything Marianne said. She ain't holdin' nothin' back, her.
