  3. Biggest factor in the drop in gun violence at the end of the 1990s is Sinaloa Cartel estalished its hegemony after murdering all its competitors. The #1 cause of mass shootings are drug cartels fighting over turf and perceived slights. It went way down while Sinaloa reigned supreme, but that supremacy seems to be no more. As their grip has slipped, the turf battles have re-intensified. Anyway, I think the best way to reduce gun violence is to end the War on Drugs. Not the way Portland did it, but all the way. Give addicts a legal place to get their drugs, regulate the drug purity, tax the stuff, and let people shoot up. If they nod off in the street, lock 'em up for 30 days. If they drive while intoxicated, I consider that perverse disregard for human life, which is 2nd-degree murder in my book. 25 to life. Same for vehicular homicide under the influence of alcohol. Default charge should be 2nd-degree murder. None of this "manslaughter" business. Switch law enforcement to enforcing the laws ALL honest people support: crimes against persons and property. Then the HONEST poor people will see the cops as their FRIENDS and PROTECTORS, rather than as somebody who wants to peek through their windows, tap their phones, and show up at their door at 3 a.m. with automatic weapons and SWAT gear. None of this "I think I smell weed" nonsense and searching your car for contraband. Ain't their place. Keep them in their place and they're an indispensable asset to civil society. Let their mission creep beyond that and the rot, suspicion, and animus take off. Anyway, AR-15 is an ideal woman's weapon for home defense. It can fire a man-stopper round in a firearm that doesn't require as much strength or skill. Just basic firearm safety and a basic understanding of its operation. WOMEN should be the ones most upset at attempts to ban the Armalite frame. As a man with a lot of old injuries, I'd feel safer in bear country with an AR than with a .45 pistol.
