Do you realize how much money it will take to create as many charging stations as the politicians insist will be in place by 2030? This is bad policy on top of bad science. Yes, the planet is warming. It does that. It only looks catastrophic if you start tracking it in 1978, the end of a long COOLING period from super-hot 1930s to the coldest part of the '70s. Temps rebounded pretty quickly from that low, as you would expect, because it was super-low.
But aside from climate-history vandalism, you have to hear what Peter Zeihan says about the RESOURCES it will require to change everything all at once. There's no way we're going to double or quadruple the production of copper, cobalt, and everything else that goes into building the cars AND the infrastructure to build enough charging stations. Nobody's thought it through. Nobody's talking about the slave labor that goes into every battery. Nobody talks about these things all being made in China, where they burn dirty coal to supply their electricity. China and India are aiming to double, triple and quadruple their coal-fired electrical generation, to cash in on the goods that Westerners can't live without and won't abide being manufactured in THEIR back yards, even though our hydro, gas and especially our coal generation are WAY cleaner than what China and India are planning.
We need DE-centralized solutions, not top-down solutions from politicians.
Maybe EVs are no-brainers for the long term, but in the SHORT term, you have to step back and think about the trade-offs. LET things change. Don't be impatient and destroy the planet and civilization because of hare-brained, single-variable solutions. "Global warming bad. Therefore unlimited water and ground pollution acceptable." Let the markets work and leave government out of it. The CULTURE cares about the environment. Now, let a billion businessmen compete for the best solutions. It's not just ONE SOLUTION. It's people trying to make money offering a product that's cleaner/greener than the next guys, and proclaiming that fact.
Will there be grifters? Sure. But people figure things out a lot quicker than the government who tells us THEY'RE taking care of everything FOR us, and erects barriers to all solutions that are not THEIR solutions...
