Things changed during Obama. The hate, intolerance, and refusal to engage in rational debate really kicked in when Hillary lost to Trump. I saw a lot of people get ostracized at work when/if it was discovered they voted Republican in 2016. It never used to be like that. People could disagree about politics, but life would go on. Democrats, though, felt BETRAYED by anyone who voted for Trump, and couldn't get it through their heads that millions of reasonable people would not vote for Clinton. The de-humanization and targeting of Trump supporters began in earnest, and every Democrat seemed to think it was their duty to use or abuse whatever power they had to bring Trump down. The weaponization of federal agencies against political opposition was very organic. The agencies were and are dominated by Democrats, and Democrats care more about winning than about what's right or what's fair.

Republicans don't de-platform, censor, and smear you for having a different opinion. Republicans don't control the federal agencies or legacy media or Big Tech platforms. Those are all of, for and by Democrats.

Lots of honest progressives have a "right-wing" audience because progressives are really just libertarians who haven't yet figured out that government isn't the cure to the human condition. The human condition is an experience full of mystery that ends for every one of us. Matt feels the poignancy and sees the tragicomedy that we are. But he can't let go of trying to "fix it" by force, via state intervention, in spite of the fact that he sees government intervention causing harm everywhere he looks. The FDA and USDA aren't really protecting our health and nutrition. They're presiding over the de-nutrification of food for the profits of Big Food. They're presiding over medical tyranny. Without these agencies, honest companies that provided honest products would thrive. Instead, they're being systematically squeezed out in favor of corporate farms.

People say your audience is conservative because of jerks like me in the comments, who come at it from a libertarian angle, which is to say, "far right," even though I just think of myself as a liberal who does his diligence, now and then.
