  1. He evolved into a statesman. But he broke a lot of eggs making that omelet. He's sort of a "Peter the Great" figure, only Peter the Great didn't have NATO to contend with. Like Putin, Qaddafi had unbreakable integrity. He was brutal when he had to be, but my impression is his vision for Libya's future was pretty enlightened. He didn't just enrich himself. He actually did his best to help his nation and his people. I'm no scholar, but nobody wanted to take him down until he stabilized his nation and campaigned for sound, gold-backed currency, and prosperity for his people. He also spoke against the way the West was (and is) manipulating nations and events in order to (apparently) extract the maximum amount of resources for as cheap as possible. The whole world would be better if we traded with all nations in good faith. But the USA adopted traditional European model of "divide-and-conquer" and "corrupt-and-conquer," undoubtedly at the knee of the waning British Empire.

  2. No, Jimmy. When government acts on behalf of industrialists and billionaires, it's not capitalism. It's a version of fascism, with government intervening on behalf of corporations and corporations intervening on behalf of government. It's a symbiosis that destroys nations.
