  1. Be careful what you wish for. The majority party ALWAYS wants to do away with the filibuster. The Democrats did away with the filibuster on presidential nominees and handed it on a silver platter to Donald Trump! The majority, today, is the minority, tomorrow. You WANT a barrier to passing legislation (or appointments) that more than 1/3 of the population vehemently opposes. When the country's close to evenly split on some big issue, tie goes to the ballcarrier, and no change is made. 51% don't get to steamroll the other 49% on the big stuff. What "reformers" always overlook is the fragile "ecosystem" that exists based on the current rule set. Any change to that rule set is going to hurt our weakest and most vulnerable people who were BARELY getting by under the old rules. There SHOULD be a certain "inertia" to things as they are. Rapid change creates extinction events. You WANT the rapid change when your guys are in the majority. But you make the pendulum swings in the opposite direction more violent when the OTHER guys are in the majority. And remember: "The urge to save the world is invariably the urge to rule." - H.L.
