  1. There's a lot of overlap between honest progressives and Trump deplorables. And the Great Compromise between the two is to let local communities have whatever poverty programs they WANT. Just pay for it themselves, with the consent of their communities. If they can't make it work from the ground up, they have no business imposing it by force from the top down. People love talking about diversity, and in the same breath will insist on nation-wide, one-size-fits-all mandates and programs that are supposed to work equally well for everyone from subtropical Florida to the Canadian border! It's arrogant and, frankly, STUPID. We need to be more decentralized except for the small number of things spelled out in the U.S. Constitution that we reluctantly allow the federal government to do, originally. All the rest should be left up to the states and local communities. The feds can spend money they don't have for decades on end. And we're burdening ALL of our children and grandchildren with debt they'll be paying for their entire lives. And the government does the OPPOSITE of protect the environment. Don't get me started on THAT. The government and the ruling-class elites are the biggest polluters on the planet!

This is the all-powerful, all-helpful government that you asked for, Jimmy. "But that's not what I meant! I want good leaders to do it right!" "Learn some history, Jimmy. Even if your current batch is 'good,' the next batch will weaponize the institutions you insist on empowering!"

  3.  @iller3  Depends on your definition of "left." Libertarian/Constitutional stances are the true left. The so-called left worships the state and government intervention which is just putting lipstick on the monarchist pig. No limit to power or scope of the state. And it's all leveraged by appeals to "compassion." After COVID, the LAST thing these progressives should want is Med-4-All, because you KNOW who'll be running it. Keynesians made no compromises with Milton Friedman. Friedman was a true, limited-government, anti-socialist liberal. "Liberal" means you want the government to leave you alone, and let you do your thing. Every time you ask for the government to save you, you're asking for the government to dictate to you, later. Progressives are clueless about this fact.
