A $5- or $10-thousand EV that could get me around town would be good. But not an overbuilt monstrosity that weighs more than a normal car and is impractical for the long hauls it's supposedly built for.

@gerbre1 Don't have to be a fanboy. I agree. But it helps. It depends on why you just don't want to burn fossil fuels. It also depends on your transportation wants and needs. If you are trying to do your bit to save the planet, a TESLA or other EV isn't going to do it. It's just trades one form of environmental degradation for another, with no clear advantage, and a vehicle that is less reliable and has limited and decreasing range.
