I can see where small, efficient EVs could get people around in the city, cheaply, and without emissions. This would greatly improve the air quality in the cities. And if the government did NOTHING, you'd slowly see more e-cars and e-bikes in urban areas. They just had no business telling automakers "All EVs by 2030, because the world is melting."

@klimatbluffen That's a definite consequence, and I bet quite a few rich people don't want the commoners to have freedom of movement. The automobile is a huge threat to government power and a huge boost to the power of the common person.

@bikersoncall I agree. BUT they relieve conditions, locally. We're not finding solutions, here. We're managing trade-offs. Some amount of battery-powered or electrical transport makes sense in urban areas. I think they overreached trying to replace automobiles everywhere all at once. Very bad policy. I think we need to find some way of preventing toxic fires and re-cycling the lithium in our phones and computers before taking the blind leap into replacing ICEs, everywhere.
