Anyway, I think it'd be interesting to see the effect of a big gyroscope in the bike's frame or in the wheels. It wouldn't want to turn in certain ways. You might be able to do gravity-defying maneuvers with one of those, mounted on a gymbal (sp?).

I do like the idea of being able to charge up a flywheel and then draw power back from it. Like to move a great big rock, maybe you pedal hard for a minute or two and use a flywheel to power your rock mover. Off-grid. But one guy could do bigger jobs for short stretches.

As for getting it perfectly round, use the holes you put in it to define center on a lathe. Make an extra-big jig for it, and turn those last few thousandths. That'd make it as perfectly balanced as you could make it, subject to the degree of uniformity in the material of the flywheel.
