  1. Liberalism was always about liberty, tolerance, personal responsibility, and especially limited government. Modern-day so-called "liberalism" is about expanding the power and scope of the federal government and punishing the responsible, while protecting everyone else from their bad decisions at the expense of those who make better decisions. I'm all about charity, but not charity at the point of a gun, operated based on the whims of some unelected federal bureaucrat.
