By NOT fighting a pre-emptive war against Hitler, we ensured his eventual defeat. By restraining ourselves, Hitler overreached and the good guys versus bad guys line was clearly drawn. Hitler was never going to obtain his goal of autarchy. The Caucasus oil fields were simply too far away. The USSR was simply too big. And we wouldn't even have had a Hitler at all, if the USA hadn't stuck its nose into European affairs and done the British Empire's dirty work for it in World War I, which was basically a war between the British and French empires and allies and the Germans and Ottomans. We don't need to involve ourselves in their pissing matches. We never did. George Washington warned against this, and almost every president in U.S. history, except Calvin Coolidge, chafed at such restrictions, seeing themselves as God Kings and Emperors and seeking glory and popularity by being "strong" in the traditional, monarchical sense.

To me, this is nothing new. The U.S. Government has never been the kind of government I was raised to respect (limited, constitutional republic). This is how it's always been. Always disappointed with every budget and the allocation of every budget.
