  1. It's not that there's not enough money for free college. You love making these kinds of arguments, but look at how free college already is. Look at the BILLIONS that are pumped into college coffers every year by federal financial aid. Preserving that aid, and bringing in more students is a gravy train for colleges. But to maximize their revenue, they need to lower standards and offer more and more fluff courses and fluff degrees. You see what's happening on college campuses? That's your socialist utopia at work. These institutions aren't answerable to their customers. They're answerable to the Department of Education and the whims of whoever happens to be Secretary of Education and/or President. We don't need government intervention in education. We need the opposite. The market does a great job of sorting out which schools do the best job at the best price, and with the Internet as a lever, the best price is a tiny fraction of what these largely government-funded institutions charge. Public education was great in the 1800s. The town pitched in, put up a school house and chipped in to pay a teacher. This is the 2000s. There isn't one book (The Holy Bible) in town. Every home now has access to the freaking Library of Congress. Education should be the LEAST of our worries, a product parents shop for like they shop for food and clothing. And relatively minor expense at that. But just when we get to that point with technology, there are millions whose living depends on perpetuating the same, centrally controlled monstrosity, instead of leaving it to the people to choose for themselves. "Public education" is why your kid can't do math, but has very strong opinions on LGBTQXYZ+ issues, and are given time off from school to go participate in a violent BLM protest. Vouchers is a step in the right direction, because then public schools would have to COMPETE for education dollars with private schools. But ultimately, it should be a product that parents buy for their kids without any government interference. Standardized testing will tell you if it's working or not. Standardized testing tells us our most expensive public schools aren't working. Remember: When you're getting something for free, YOU are the product, not the something you're being given. Public school is where the government buys your children from you.
