  1. Where I grew up, Bass season started June 15th, which is after they're done spawning, there. As far "snagging" bass lying on their eggs, that's not necessary. When they're protecting their eggs, bass will strike at ANYthing that comes near.

  2. I doubt you have much experience fishing for largemouth (or smallmouth) bass in North America. It's easy, with razor-sharp treble hooks on an artificial minnow to "snag" a bass in the gills, even on an honest strike. Occasionally, when they jump or shake their heads, the hook in their mouth comes loose, but in the process another set of treble hooks will lodge somewhere else. Just dragging a lure or a crank bait through the reeds is not a tactic for snagging a bass. That doesn't mean I think they guy's honest. That tank full of bass in his garage is a pretty clear indictment.
