  1. Everyone thought artisans would go on welfare because of manufacturing and the interchangeable part. What Weinstein leaves out of his analysis is all the jobs that currently go un-done or are currently not even imagined. There are so many services and lifestyle and living options opening up as a result of every bit of progress we make. Do we cry about unemployed flint-knappers? Are we adrift because we no longer have wise men, who alone among us, know what day the solstice is? Are we lost because we can no longer track wounded animals or scent a predator? It won't be the same. But we won't run out of things to do. This whole line of thinking is Luddism re-branded.
