@andrasbiro3007 If you used it sparingly, you could keep one charged on your own solar panels. But we still burn a lot of fossil fuels to build a Tesla and solar panels. Then there's the matter of lithium mines... But if we ever get to where people can handle atomic power or solar satellites, we could go 100% electric, planetwide.

@_RM99 FPV drones used as assassination weapons with a drone operator walled-up in the basement of the building were in DUNE, published in 1965.

@tomsd8656 Converting energy from one form to another comes at great loss of efficiency. Porting that power to an outlet causes massive transmission losses. I don't think the EV is really saving much, except it's moving the fossil fuel consumption away from the vehicle, which is good for city air, but not moving the needle for the planet. I agree that hybrid tech is VERY promising. Good power and ridiculously good gas mileage, plus, if you keep your driving to a minimum as I do, you can do a lot of good with a pretty cheap solar panel. The main "benefit" of pure EV is it restricts the mobility of common people.

@whong09 Yes. Destruction is easier than construction. We're rapidly reaching a stage where mutually assured destruction will apply to conventional weapons. We'll be forced to get along, because anybody can be reached at any time, and the only way to survive will be to not piss off your neighbors!

@whong09 Yes. For instance, the way people speak to one another online, sometimes, because there are no real consequences to them. What if the keyboard zapped you for rudeness? Heh.

Lockheed will produce a headset that's half as good, and costs $1 million.

The heavier weight of EVs will also require more road repairs.

No, they're not close, and your single-variable research proves nothing. They can do some good around town, and hybrids can do some good, long-range.

@ If the game was terrifying, imagine what life is like on the front lines in Ukraine.

This could be a domestic oil boom. Instead, it's a crisis.

@ Heh.

If the technology is sound, why do you need subsidies? People who can't afford an EV or have a place to charge it at home are going to be giving YOU money? Very selfish of you and not sustainable thinking.

@engihere5434 They won't hold up in 10 years. A bunch of rich people bought them new, but nobody's buying them used.

Anybody who could truck a big gas tank to a remote location DID so. All the infrastructure required was roads. Profit and free enterprise took care of the rest, because ICE was good technology. If a tech requires taxpayer funding, it's not good tech.
