  2. After years of the same drill, people have grown immune to overt emotional displays. There for a while, all you had to do to "win" an argument was to act offended and upset. Just raise your voice, summon a few fake tears, and win the room! It's gotten old and stale. I was always immune, but most people were not. Most people just want the person who's upset to calm down, a little.

  3. Conservative/Labour are just two sides of the same uni-party coin. Same in the USA with Democrats and Republicans, but at least we're trying to change that.

  5. I think she's romanticizing American journalism. There is definitely a Holy Grail called "objective journalism," but the best you're ever going to get are the ones who sell themselves as objective AND what they say holds up over time. Mainstream media (so-called) has failed in that mission of reliability and objectivity. They had an oligopoly and they abused the power to sway public opinion in the exact wrong direction at some pretty critical points in recent history, and people are actually starting to remember, here and there. WMDs, lockdowns, mandates, Ivermectin-is-horse-paste, HCQ-is-not-an-option, RussiaGate, Hunter-Laptop-has-all-the-hallmarks-of-Russian-Propaganda, ...

  6. You have to fix the humanities departments, first. There's so much anti-knowledge coming out of humanities departments, these days, the masses are rejecting it out of hand. And they should.

  8. I know some very smart people who reduce society to something mechanical, ignoring the actions and motivations of all the people who make society work. They think that the best world possible is obtained by people giving up their agency to vested authorities, capable of making all the big decisions, backed by the government monopoly on use of force. Very good programmers. Probably be good at logistics in war time. Terrible when it comes to political economy, because none of them can imagine ideas of Adam Smith.

  10. Funny how they say journalists are over-educated, but judging by the things they say, they can't do math, don't know history, and can never figure out why free enterprise is better than planned economy.
