  1. When all your policies and ideas are about POWER, your ability to govern is intellectually bankrupt. That doesn't mean you can't keep pulling one fast one after another, more or less indefinitely. Clearly Democrats don't have to be popular to SIMULATE being popular, with organs of media doing their bidding, and control of all the big-city voting processes.

  2.  @ticklingoscillators1852  They still believe in a Republican ogre that doesn't really exist, and that trumps the small number of corrupt Democrats they escaped in California. To them, it's NOT a philosophical misconception driving their beliefs, but an incorrect implementation of their will. "Socialism has never been tried" sort of thinking, even though history teaches how unsustainable their ideas are, and how destructive of the CULTURE that undergirds free, prosperous and moral society. Liberals also have a generally low opinion of their less-educated neighbors. They insist that the state must step in because they KNOW that the average person is helpless, oblivious to their own role in creating more and more widespread helplessness. You don't help the weak by ceaselessly punishing the strong.
