President stealing a page from the Progressive handbook. He'll have aluminum plants he can point to, which workers will like. And it'll boost all the trades in the vicinity of the re-opened plants. Short-term, though, a 10% spike in cost of the affected products. But I believe when I hear that foreign competitors have been cheating those prices down to capture the market and expand their production.

Tariffs on products that competitors subsidize is a LEGIT federal mandate. We want free trade. But competing against government-subsidized producers is not free trade. I'm mulling, now, whether our tariff structure should include the calculated amount of exploitation of workers. Meh. Iffy concept. And our standards versus a try-hard 3rd-world country, where that industry is their shot at living cleaner, healthier, happier and longer-lasting lives, with less enviro impact per person. We need to be aware of that and foster 3rd-worlders trying to claw their way up. There's a world-wide market for hand-crafted clothing and other items. A lot of us would pay extra for that, and we can make middle-class entrepreneurs out of simple people, applying the crafts they DO know. I think that's how the 3rd world will eventually claw their way up. We gotta get 'em set up online is all ! LOL!
