  2. Inflation. Planned obsolescence. So many things wrong with our economy. Smartphones and computers are solid-state electronics. Should last a lifetime. Cars should last a lifetime.

  3.  @parmenides9036  Reputable firms that backed their currencies with commodities like gold would have currencies accepted by all, that kept their value. What you gain in convenience with the U.S. dollar, you lose every minute of every day to inflation. This pushes you into spendthrift behavior instead of prudent saving. Inflation is a bag of coins that leaks. You've gotta spend it before it's gone.
