  1. A lot of RVs see very little dirt or gravel roads, let alone 4x4 trails. These campers will go anywhere you can get your 4x4. That said, I've seen people getting big, poofy RVs into pretty small, pretty rugged places.

  2. You make a point about it being a 4-season design. I'd like to hear and see more about what you do to keep things from freezing. It's well-insulated, but do you have water heaters? The hot water for the shower is on-demand, but I think you'd need insulated tanks and some sort of heating system, and heater tape on the lines... I would definitely want the arctic package, if there is such a thing. I love traveling during the Christmas holidays, and I've been known to spend nights on the road at -30F. The Aussies are all over this market, but I don't think they worry a lot about arctic temperatures.

  4. There are (were less than 10 years ago) companies that build custom cargo haulers pretty cheap. You might be surprised at what some of the horse-trailer manufacturers can put together for hybrid cargo/living setups. Some of the cargo-trailer companies also make horse trailers. Some of the nicest "campers" are the horse trailers you see. I've seen palaces on wheels towing horses. Anyway, these trailer manufacturers will put any kind of flooring, doors, windows, vents, lights, heater/air-conditioner, power option, suspension option you can think of, except maybe the Timbren axle-less systems, which are really nice, but kind of frivolous. Forget about the little lithium-ion batteries they're pushing so hard, now. Just get a couple lead-acid marine batteries and call 'er good. Of course, you'd want the rear doors hinged at the bottom, to make a ramp. But yeah, they make 'em, if you go look for them. Google "custom cargo trailers." I'd rather make one of those into a toy hauler than buy a toy hauler.

  5. Even the entry-level model can go pretty much anywhere you'd want to go truck camping. Maybe it's the smart way to go, because you're not so invested in it, you're afraid to put a scratch on it. If there's one "accessory" I wish I had during my semi-annual road-trippin' days, one of these teardrops would've been it. I'd've had to get a stronger pickup, I think, given the roads I traveled. But my camps would've been more plush, and if all I wanted was some shut-eye, hopping into bed instead of sleeping in the cab or pitching a tent would've made those trips more enjoyable. Plus I could take more stuff going and/or coming.
