  2. It's cheaper to house and feed them for life at that point than it is to go through the inevitable appeals, which are very expensive. We are a civilized society that can afford to quarantine such. When people are starving and we can no longer afford prisons, then yes. Exile. Capital punishment. It's just cheaper for a free society to lock 'em up. And having your freedom taken away for the whole rest of your life and depriving you of the one thing that drives your whole life is arguably far more punishment.
