  1. Israel's increasingly extreme behavior was totally predictable. They were given a scrap of land by outsiders, who disenfranchised the Palestinians in the process, angering every Arab state in the Middle East. Israel has to become extreme to survive. Its neighbors become more and more extreme in response, but they started out radicalized, due to the use of force by Western Allies in the 1940s, flushed with victory and full of guilt. What a toxic mixture! I don't know what the answer is, but I'm 99% sure it doesn't involve military intervention or military support of Israel by the USA. The USA is stuck in a sunk-cost fallacy fueled by Christian beliefs (that are twisted by politicians in government and in the church)...
