In Canada, you have other issues associated with no one "profiting" from medical care. Long waits. Treatments unavailable. Etc. In the USA, people with insurance pay the freight for everyone who doesn't have insurance. The medicare rates do not always cover the full cost, so the hospital makes it up off the paying customers and/or provides substandard care. The best doctors in the USA are retiring as early as possible, because of rigid controls, red tape, and difficulty earning good money. I had a major surgery that cost $70,000. The surgeon only got about $700. The rest was inflated bullshit.

I remember Governors Whitmer and Newsom ignoring their own mandates to go on vacation and hold dinner parties? Yeah. I remember. I also remember all these clowns buying massive beachfront estates while telling the rest of us to expect sea levels to rise by 10 feet? I remember. Remember Al Gore? His net worth went from a couple 10s of millions to over $300 million. How? By flying in a private jet all over the world to tell everybody we can't drive cars or fly in planes, because muh global warming? Remember him? Yeah. His home compound uses more power than a small city. These are not good or honest people.

  138. This is why decentralization of power is crucial to human survival. You can't get things right for everyone, but you at least have a shot at getting things MORE right in your little corner of it. Then sharing successes and failures with others allows good ideas to be discovered and spread most effectively and efficiently. Putting everyone under ONE government's or ONE agency's idea of "what's best" NEVER turns out well for the people, in the long run. Just takes one guy with a bad idea to screw things up for EVERYbody.

  141. I would argue that the norms and practices arrived at by major institutions may or may not serve the public health. What I have a problem with is the coercion and destruction of people's lives for simply looking at the facts and deciding not to partake of someone's grand medical experiment. I didn't much care for the FDA or the protocols already in place BEFORE COVID. This COVID disaster was a long time in the making, with extensive crony capitalism and corrupt officials at the top of the public health establishment.

They shut down doctors who used common sense and treated their patients as individuals, using their knowledge and experience to treat the symptoms like they would any patient with a respiratory virus. You can bet no member of Congress or Parliament was told to go home until they were almost dead. Early, common-sense treatment stopped covid in its tracks.

Many mothers also were willing to do ANYthing - including jabbing their kids - to get the kids back in school, because they couldn't cope without the free baby-sitting. Single mothers REALLY got stretched thin, which is just one more reason the government loves single moms. "I'll be your sugar daddy," says the government. "So you have to do everything I say."

They can - and HAVE - torpedoed politicians who depart in any way from the bureaucracy's comfortable (for the bureaucracy) narratives. From health care and public education to matters of war and peace. All run by "experts" answerable to no one.

The government censored off-the-shelf treatments for COVID and threatened doctors if they did the right thing. Censorship is not how you fight bad ideas. It's how bad ideas are imposed on others.

Basically, garbage in -> garbage out. That's why all the climate models based on CO2-caused catastrophic climate change invariably fail to make reliable predictions. You know it's political when ALL the "accepted" models, when applied to PAST date, vastly over-estimate global temperatures. Speaking of garbage, NOAA and NASA have retconned (memory-holed) actual climate data for the entire first 2/3 of the 20th Century. It was much warmer in the 1930s than data now shows, and the cooling from then until about 1978 has been expunged from the record. I'm old enough to remember the 1970s when the exact same authoritarians were insisting on authoritarian measures to prevent global COOLING!
