Sorry boys. Cronkite skewed the news, too . Just people were more gullible back in the day. It's always been selective news and slanted news, but most folks didn't notice. You didn't notice because you really had to dig for the real stories to know that what was on t.v. was CBS higher-ups and political insiders deciding what was worthy of reporting (what was spoonfed their news team through "anonymous sources.") , and nobody knew. Only since Trump team started targeting leakers with deliberately faked memoranda that reveal the source by the nature of the lie has it become so blatantly obvious to general public just what's going on. One Fake News story after another being breathlessly reported one day and retracted the next. Exposes the insiders who are leaking to the justice system and exposes the media for uncritically parroting whatever their sources want them to parrot. But this stuff has been going on for a long time. Before the recent spate of Fake News from Anonymous Sources, there was the run-up to the Iraqi War, and worse, "embedded reporters" giving carefully staged "news" and riding the glory train waving the flag and basically giving the U.S. government-insider slant on everything. That was under Bush, and nothing changed under Obama, except the political ideology of the manipulators in power (which was not all that different from the previous president's).
