  1. American aid has dropped from billions to millions. American public is turning against deeper entanglement and wants the money spent on chronic problems back home. But I don't think it's the end of Ukraine. Putin will just keep sitting on them, the way he is, now, and let them gain back a little of their own territory, if it costs them a lot to do so and he doesn't incur heavy losses on his side. We can argue over actual casualty figures on both sides, but I think UA is more interested in territorial gains than Ukrainian lives. I think Putin is content to see Kiev contending with a larger foe than bombarding its own people in Donbass in violation of Minsk.
